SIDEY Training Academy
Another cohort of Modern Apprentices at Sidey, recently completed their qualifications at the Sidey Training Academy, supported by our Glass Industry Occupations Assessor, Brian Moultrie.
Matthew said that he had applied for the Apprenticeship as there was a lack of joinery apprenticeships in his area, and he felt that Glass & Glazing was also a good choice of career to fit his skills.
When we asked them what parts of the qualification they found challenging, Kian said that completing the portfolio and the wording of some of the questions was sometimes tricky, however, Brian offered support to enable him to complete the questions to the required standard. James added that he had no previous experience of Glass and Glazing, however as he gained experience within the work this was able to help him to achieve his qualification.
All the apprentices agreed that they found the most beneficial part to be working and learning on the job while undertaking their qualification and said that they had a much better understanding of Building Standards, how to measure correctly, and different types of windows and their different features.
Donna Montgomery, Community Benefits Manager at Sidey said,
“To attract a new generation of fenestration installers, it was important Sidey provided a clear career path, training, and support; the MA qualification was the foundation upon which we built our Training Academy.
The feedback that the Assessor, Brian Moultrie, provided following site visits, the way he encouraged our apprentices and shared his experiences to help them with their knowledge & understanding questions plus his accommodating attitude throughout was superb. He was able to overcome any potential barriers the Modern Apprentices had, such as dyslexia, and therefore the whole delivery process was completely seamless.
I have no doubt that the skills the apprentices have gained during their MA qualification, will make them more inquisitive, confident Installers.
Sidey is looking ahead to our third recruitment of Modern Apprentices, and I can’t imagine working with any other provider other than RT Resources.”
